Operation Kahuta

R&AW(RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS WING)

Failure of IB during indo-china war of 1962 followed by the failure of intelligence of attack on kashmir by pakistan in 1965 made the prime minister Indira Gandhi think of other intelligence agency which could only focus on foreign intelligence ,and so after deciding it with the ministers in the cabinet the responsiblity of forming the agency was given to Rameshwar Nath Kao and thats how the R&AW was formed. 

WHO WAS R.N. KAO?????

Rameshwar Nath Kao was born in varanasi and has joined imperial police service in 1940 which was later changed to indian police service ,he was working in the IB when Indira gandhi approached him. on getting the responsiblity he started from scratch and formed R&AW and also he became the first chief of R&AW.

 his role in 1971 war between India and Pakistan made him the hero in espionage circuit and by looking at this  George Bush senior the former director of CIA was so much impressed that he gave him the title of 'COW BOY'.

WHY OPERATION KAHUTA STARTED???

in 1974 india did its 1st successful nuclear test and became the nuclear power but this was indigestible for country like pakistan and so it also wanted to become a nuclear power at any cost.

to fullfill this pakistan intelligence agency ISI recruited A.Q Khan a young scientist and sent him to work in the nuclear company named urenco in netherland ,while working there A.Q Khan stole various sensitive information about nuclear technology and fled away from netherland with his dutch wife and childrens.
on returning to pakistan A.Q khan began his search for the place where he can carry out his operations and at the same time he was frequently visiting pyongyang (north korea),this drew the attention of Mossad as passing of nuclear technology into the hand of north korea would pose a great threat to world so Mossad contacted the R&AW and decided to do a joint operation in stopping pakistan.
after a lot of searches conducted by khan kahuta was decided to be the best place for developing nuclear bomb and so A.Q khan laboratory was setup there and this was named project 706.
agents of R&AW was active everywhere in rawalpindi to get the location where nuclear bomb was being made so that they can infiltrate the facility and destroy the project with the help of Mossad.
scientist working in A.Q khan laboratory were put on surviellance by the agents of R&AW,their office time,lunch time,affairs every thing was noted by them but R&AW agents were still not confirmed if this laboratory was the place or not,so they started collecting samples of hair from the barber shop of those scientsit who were working in A.Q.khan lab and sent it to India.on forensic test it was found that those hair contained the traces of refined plutonium,it was a major break through in this operation.
now it was confirmed that A.Q khan laboratory is the only place where this project was going on and all they need to do was infiltrate and destroy the facility,for this R&AW also pulled one scientist working in that lab towards its side who was ready to hand over the blue prints of the lab to them in exchange of a good amount.

WHY OPERATION KAHUTA FAILED???

Morarji desai former prime minister of india did not liked IB and R&AW because his thinking was that these agencies are meant to destroy a good realtionship with our neighbouring countries,so the first thing he did when he became the PM of india was cutting the budget of R&AW by 30% which made R.N kao very angry thereby  he resigned from the post of chief of R&AW and this was a major drawback in opeartion kahuta,well morarji desai did not stop here.

According to the rule book of R&AW whenever they need to do any kind of monetary transaction they are bound to take the permission of Prime minsiter of india, so when chief of R&AW went to the office of morarji desai to sanction the amount as he need to pay and get the blue print of the lab,he briefed him the matter as he was bound to do that but morarji desai did something which no country men can do and bear if anyone would do that.

he called the pakistan foreign minsiter and in normal conversation he has given him all the information what he got to know from R&AW.

because of this pakistan became very careful and killed several agents of R&AW and with this the operation kahuta failed.

we can call him either the idiotic prime minister of india or disloyal prime minister of india the choice is yours. thank you
