Early Life

yogendra yadav belonging to an army family used to listen to the war stories of 1965 and 1971 in which his father participated and use to see himself in the battles fighting and winning over enemies so it was his elder brother who joined armed forces and on returning back from several months of duty suggested him to give a try in the indian army , he said "abhi toh inter kar rhe hai uske baad dekhte hai" but his big brother insisted him to give a try .He knew that once i participate in the entrance i will be qualified and mother of yogendra yadav ji thought the same,at that time his age was 16 year 5 month he went for the entry in army and eventually he got selected and it was his first (veni,vidi,vici).





Life in Indian Army


after joining the indian army he was trained for 1 year and was placed in 18 grenadiers regiment of indian army.it was the same regiment in which Abdul Hamid and Hoshiyar singh 

served the country and he was proud of himself to join in such unit as he was inspired the stories of Abdul hamid and Hoshiyar Singh , so on one fine day in his home on leave while sleeping he saw a dream in which enemies were running with indian flag in hand and was killing our jawans so it gave him a hint of something bad was about to happen but none of us knew that pakistan will do such nuisance.

Role in Kargil War

when he reached jammu to join the duty he was said that their unit have moved to drass sector in kargil and when he inquired about,it he was said there are 3-4 militants hiding on the hills but he knew that this wasnt the case of just 3-4 militants it will be far more disastrous. he joined the unit in drass sector there he was assigned a duty to take the ammunition and food for the jawans fighting on top of the hills and he did his work with pure dedication because he dreamed of serving the motherland by fighting battles and this was the time,after 22 days of continuous supply of arms aand ammunition on 12 june 1999 indian army conquered the tololing but his job was not completed yet.

after the tololing was captured now it was the time to win tiger hill and for that three sided attack was planned . subedar yogendra yadav was assigned into ghatak platoon whosejob was was to climb the tiger hill from the right side and it had an inclination of 90 degrees, it was nearly impossible but our indian army always do the impossible tasks as we all know. the soldiers started to climb in the night and in the day light they sheltered themselves behind the big rocks so it was the first peak where the unit have climbed and the delta company got engaged in attack but somehow they were made safe and again on the other day they managed to get on other peak as it was night time they tied a rope and went on the other side of hill as the enemies were asleep that time ,on hearing the sound of stones they were awake and started firing from both the sides due to which the path was cut down and several men could not cross now as he was with 8-9 men only it was impossibe to win over the enemies as they had full fledged weapons and manpower but then also they neutralised several of them with limited weapons.

now it was the dreaded thing which happened as the pakistani troops had located all of them and knew that they were very few they attacked from all around and  nearly killed all of them  then they came and checked the dead bodies of indian soldier after bursting them with fire that are they alive or not .yogendra yadav was shot thrice to check but he did not gave up because of his inner belief to capture the tiger hill,being injured he managed to get 4-5 soldiers of pakistani army with hand grenades and rifle ,it was after his attack that they thought reinforcement of indian army have arrived and they fleed from that location which helped him to escape from that point,he cried for several hours carrying the dead bodies of his mates and then located the enemies weapon position and resting position.his hands was nearly torn apart foots could barely move as they were hit by the splinters of grenade but he pushed himself by falling through the narrow lanes and reached foot of the hill where he was rescued by indian army and all the information was given to his commanding officer colonel kushal chand thakur about the enemy position and ammunitions and it was for his valour he was awarded with the highest gallantary award param vir chakra
